Living Your Best Life No Matter What

We are all striving to live our best lives but with so many differing views about what this means, it can be hard to figure out just what to do to make it happen .

As tempting as it is to post endless ‘perfect’ pictures on Instagram, we all know that this is not really living your life, never mind your best life.  Its just a snippet of your life.  Friendships, fulfillment and fun require more than a good filter.

But when life keeps sending you lemons and you haven’t yet won the lottery and bought your mega mansion, what can you do?

Acknowledge Your Flaws

It’s not quite the glamour of champagne by the pool, but when you learn to acknowledge your flaws, you learn to accept yourself. Overcoming adversity is never easy and when you are coming to terms with yourself, you need to be prepared to realize some uncomfortable truths about yourself.

Though it might be a painful process at times, understanding your flaws is a crucial part of your growth as a human being. You don’t have to do this alone, however. Some problems require a bit more support and whether this means checking into rehab in Seattle or seeking advice from a Therapist or from your closest friends, don’t hesitate to open yourself up.

It’s okay to be vulnerable sometimes. This is something I've come to learn to do in the last few months of being in couples therapy.

Work Towards Your Goals

Everyone has goals in life and it doesn’t matter what you are working towards as long as it brings you a sense of fulfillment. Setting goals is a good way to motivate yourself but it is also the best way to stretch yourself and achieve even more.

Having a few goals on the go is a good idea. While some goals can be achieved within a relatively short period of time (such reading the works of a particular author), you should also have some goals that may be out of reach for your whole life such as mastering an instrument. There are all kinds of different goals you can aim for and having a mix of a few will certainly keep you occupied!

Be Kind to Yourself

It’s easy to be critical about yourself and to see how you measure up to what you perceive as society's standards. The problem is that when you do this, you are trying to measure up to something unattainable - looks that have been enhanced by filters, lifestyles bought on credit and wild social lives are easy bait on social media.

If you truly want to be happy and live your best life, you must start to be kinder to yourself.

Allow yourself a chance to try something before assuming that you can’t, forgive yourself when you mess up and give yourself the respect you know you deserve. When you start to be kinder to yourself, you will quickly notice that others are kinder to you too,

Life is full of ups and downs and while we can’t be perfect all the time, living your best life is about more than looking like you are. Self-acceptance is the key to happiness and affords you a new beginning where anything is possible.

You deserve that.  Life's a party, enjoy it while you can.
