Use Classic Materials

Leather, marble, antique gold, solid wood, these materials will add that bit of extra luxurious feel to your home. These are things you can find in high-end furniture stores but are even better finds at a local thrift store, flea markets or on Craigslist. Get yourself into upcycling, and you will be able to create unique pieces of furniture for your home that will make your friends green with envy. They will ask you where you got it from, and you can either tell them the truth or be vague about it. And the bonus is that its extremely fun and gratifying to successfully upcycle things!

Lighting And More Of It

If you were to invest in one thing, then invest in lighting. It can be quite the cost driver, but good lighting is essential for every home. Good homes are well-lit, perfect homes stand out due to lighting. There is a perfect balance to strike between just having a single source (most likely overhanging) of light or multiple in the room.

In most cases having multiple light sources will create a dynamic play of light and dark that will bring out the best in the room. Also, consider the brightness of the lamps you are buying, less bright, but multiple lights always seem to work best. And always energy saving bulbs! You might want to go for that luxurious feeling, but we are trying to be kind to Mother Earth as well!

Control Your Natural Light

Speaking of light also consider controlling your natural light. In most cases, you want as much natural light as possible. This can be amplified by using plenty of mirrors. But what if you have too much natural light, maybe due to an unfortunate layout or a tree being cut? Consider using ceramic window tint on those occasions where you want to change or switch up the intensity and hue of the light coming in. You’ll be surprised by the dramatic effect this can have on the house as a whole.

A Personal Touch

Any good home will have something that speaks of the owners of the house. These can be personal photographs that invite the viewer to be part of the family or artwork that moves. In most cases, going big, for both photographs and artwork, will help create eye-catching focal points in a room. With photographs, go matte and research different kinds of printers and mediums they can print on. As important as the photo itself, the execution of transferring it to the right medium is equally as important.

Life

Last, but not least, is the use of life in the home. This can be anything ranging from fresh flowers to green plants. Ideally, you will have a few pets, as well. After all, from the most basic looking home to one that is abundant with luxury, homes are there to be full of life.
