5 Feel-Good Musicals that Will Put a Smile on Your Face

The world right now is topsy-turvy, primarily due to the pandemic. If you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed or sad, know that this is a normal response.

You should, however, go easy on yourself and take care of your mental health.

One of the things you could do during these times of difficulty is to watch plays and musicals designed to lift your spirits.

If you're not sure what to watch, consider these five feel-good favorite show titles:

Jesus

This broadway-meets-bible musical, which is available on Amazon, is the first full-length production of Sight & Sound Theatres. It's an inspiring show that tells the life story of the most well-known biblical figure known to man. The musical will take you to the Savior's humble beginnings as the Son of the Carpenter.

Along the way, you'll witness the many miracles mentioned in the bible, including the healing of the blind man and the calming of the storm. You'll also watch Jesus' tribulations as the Pharisees label Him as a rebel and attempt to silence Him and His message.
Sight and Sound Theatre's Jesus also comes with original scores and special effects that will leave you in awe. If you're looking to get inspired and celebrate your Christian faith at the same time, be sure to watch this musical.

The Sound of Music

Set in the "alive" hills of Salzburg, Austria, this three-hour cinematic broadway musical masterpiece tells the story of Maria who becomes the governess for Captain Von Trapp and his seven kids. Despite having a rocky start, Maria brings music and happiness to the Von Trapp household. You'll surely enjoy singing the "Do-Re-Mi" song - and have a blast watching rebellious nuns mess with the lackeys of Hitler.

The Lion King

If you've just finished watching a Disney Christmas movie during the holidays, why not continue your Disney streak by watching a musical produced by the same company?

The Lion King is a dazzling story about Simba, a young lion prince who must overcome the death of his father and defeat his villainous uncle to ascend as the rightful king of the Pride Lands.

You have two options when watching this musical. The first is to watch the live-action reboot released in 2019. The second is to view the 1994 animated film. Whatever you choose, you'll come to love the characters and the catchy songs that will have you saying Hakuna Matata.

Grease

This 1978 musical follows the sweet and romantic love story of good girl Sandy Olsson and greaser Danny Zuko. When these two meet up during the summer, they spend time at the beach and fall in love. Once the season ends, however, the two believe that won't see each other again. Little do they know that they'll be attending the same high school.

There's a lot to love about "Grease," from the story to the costumes and music.

Annie

This uplifting musical does more than just tell people that the sun will come out tomorrow. It tells the story of Annie, a little orphan living in a miserable orphanage. Her seemingly bleak life turns around dramatically when billionaire Oliver Warbucks adopts her. She quickly wins the hearts of Warbucks' household staff. Even Warbucks himself could not help but learn to love Annie.

This musical has loads of color, movement, music and dance that's perfect for all ages. If you're looking for a feel-good, family-friendly musical, Annie is the right choice for you.

If you ever need a mood booster during the pandemic, consider watching one of these five musicals. Once you've finished watching these plays, make sure you recommend them to a friend or family who may need a pick-me-up just like you.
