Habits You Should Quit & Creating Better Ones

A lot of people find their health confusing and a complicated aspect of life. They also get confused into thinking it’s all about spending hours in the gym, however, it’s more about your lifestyle habits. If you want to live a healthier and happier lifestyle, you need to start by looking at any habits that may be getting in your way.

Habits are usually the reason you aren’t progressing and seeing a difference when you do want to make the changes. It can be difficult to know what habits you should be quitting so you can achieve both happiness and better health overall.

So, with that said, below you'll find some of the habits you really should be quitting if you want to live a healthier lifestyle and a much better way to practice better habits in exchange of the bad ones.

Are You A Couch Potato?

This is something that many of us can be guilty of from time to time, I was once too, but turn it into a habit and it can be a hard one to break. It’s something that is seen too often. Downtime is good for you so you can destress, but too much downtime is unhealthy.

It's recommended that you get around 150 minutes of moderate exercise every week, but a lot of people feel as though they haven’t got the time for it. If you look closely at how often you find yourself relaxing on the sofa watching TV you will likely be able to find the time for exercise. You could even watch your favorite shows while on an indoor bike, treadmill, rower, or stepper.

Drinking Alcohol In Excess or That Carry Sugar

There are many people who like to enjoy a drink, especially when it comes to the weekend, however, drinking in excess can be really bad for your health. Drinking too much on a regular basis is related to numerous issues including chronic diseases.

This doesn’t mean you need to cut it out completely, just do it in moderation and make sure they don't carry too much or any sugar at all. If you ever feel as though it is an issue and you can no longer control the consumption, then you may want to consider seeking help and information from your doctor and possibly inpatient rehab

Smoking And Vaping

Every time you light up you are lowering your life expectancy. Period.

When you are a smoker the risk of strokes, heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema, and a variety of other health issues are heightened. And contrary to belief this also includes vaping. Quitting may seem difficult, however, the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Not Thinking About Real Food

Although it would be nice to have to think about the food we eat, it’s the main fuel source for our body and therefore important that it’s the right food.

Fast foods and sugar may be a quick boost of energy and quite satisfying at first, but eating them too often can be detrimental to your health. It’s important to eat a well-balanced diet that includes healthier options of protein, dairy, healthy fats, healthy carbs, fruits, and vegetables.

Something to avoid is fad diets or anything that offers a quick fix. Constantly jumping on and off a restrictive diet can lead to you struggling with weight even more. Definitely do your research and make sure that once you decide to eat healthier and exercise that it's a lifestyle change you're willing to commit for life, not just temporarily.
