6 Signs You're Ready To Be Your Own Boss | IWD

Whether you have thought about it once or you have thought about it twice, you could be ready to be your own boss. Are you done taking orders from someone else? We’re not surprised if that’s the case.

Most people get to a point where they have had enough of working under the rule of other people and they’re ready to just strike out on their own.

Being your own boss is the hardest, most exhilarating adventure that you can go on in your professional life. Discovering yourself as a leader is as exciting as discovering how to use a restaurant POS system for the first time. There is a lot to learn as a business leader, but the first thing that you have to learn is whether you are ready to be your own boss.

Below, we’ve got six signs that you are ready to be your own boss for a change!

1. You’re ready to be in control. You’re done taking orders and you are doing well enough in your role that you want to be in charge. Whether that’s leading a kitchen as a head chef or you want to run an office of people, you want to take the reins and be in control of the whole thing.

2. It’s time to set your own hours. Are you done trying to make working work around your kids and family? Some people find it most difficult to do this because they have to constantly ask permission to just...live. Instead of doing this, you could be a business owner and run your own company instead. This will help you to have the right business opportunities and be the best at what you do.

3. It’s your time to do something you enjoy. There are some things that we do in life that we do for convenience. A job is a job, as long as it pays you money to live, then do it. However, there comes a time you want to do something you want to do and not something you have to do. It’s your time to run a business in a way that you would want to, in a field you would enjoy.

4. You’re happy to muck in. If you are ready to muck in and get your hands dirty, then now is the time to go ahead and start a business because business is messy! You need to succeed and that means ensuring that you do the dirty work and long hours. If you’re ready for it, then go for it.

5. You are excited to learn. Running a business is a learning curve. You have to take on many different roles, from sales and marketing to advertising and finance. If you are excited to learn all of that, you might have the readiness to run your own business.

6. You’re self-motivated. Being your own boss means no one is telling you what to do...but it also means no one is telling you what to do. Hopefully you heard that aloud! You need to have a high level of self-motivation to get it done, and you have to motivate yourself to be in charge. That takes time!
