Going on vacation is a great time for everyone, but it’s important to consider that you’re in charge of everyone else while you’re planning.
Planning the perfect vacation is a little more difficult when you’ve got 2 or more other people to plan for. In any case, the right destination is out there, you just have to explore your options.
What matters most is how much time you get to spend with your family. It’s not just for getting away from work, it’s the bonding experience that you’re not going to be able to get anywhere else.
Getting your timing right
One of the main struggles about getting your whole family ready for a vacation is finding the right time for it. Getting time away from work and school makes things complicated, and even then you need a destination that’s right for that time. It’s no use heading to a beach destination when you’re expecting there to be cold weather when you get there.

Choosing your location
If you’re taking young children with you, it’s important to consider what’s important to both you and them. Going sightseeing sadly isn’t really something younger children enjoy, and it might not even be something they can appreciate until they’re adults. It’s because of this that family destinations and resorts are highly recommended.
They typically try to cater to everyone’s interests, and you might find that there are plenty of sites to see around it when you’re not spending the day around the resort.
Make it a road trip
As mentioned before, a huge part of taking a vacation with your family is the time you can spend bonding. Getting there by plane cuts down the travel time a lot, but going by car means you’re going to get a lot more time together - and if you’ve got a car spacious enough and have packed enough snacks, your road trip can be something really special.
Of course, it’s not for everyone, and the idea of being stuck in a car for 2 days without a break might sound like a nightmare for some families.
Managing your expectations
There’s no real telling how your kids are going to react to the holiday destination you’ve got planned. Until they’ve experienced it for themselves, they’re not going to know what they like either. If you can manage your expectations and remember that they’re only young and able to appreciate simpler things - you can book something really special.
Sometimes a relaxing getaway isn’t realistic to expect, sometimes you’ll have to sacrifice a lot of your own preferences to have things go smoothly - that’s just how it is when traveling as a group!
