We Bought a House in Utah

 Hello friends!

We've been in our new home for a month now. But we can officially say that we are finally the proud home owners of an early 2000's bungalow style home, and I'm proud to say it's not a total fixer upper, but it does need some love.

In case you missed it there's a blog post about our move from CA to Utah!

It only took us almost two months to close on this house but it was worth the wait. And if you follow me on social media then you also got a glimpse of the home tour I shared over on YouTube.

Though there were some mishaps along the way, we knew deep down that this home was meant to be ours.

We don't have plans for a tear down or restructure. This house has good bones and for now we're happy with the layout of it too. But we do have plans to paint over practically every single interior wall and eventually exterior, want to add all the charm and fixings it may need to fit our style.

So let me walk you through some of our spaces.

ENTRY / LIVING ROOM

In this home, as you walk in, you walk right into the main living room, unlike our CA home, where we had an entry way, this is definitely different and though we don't have a foyer, we at least have an entry closet which is nice. The living room isn't a huge space but it's roomy enough and this home doesn't have a fireplace by the way, so it does lack that part of the charm.

So a faux fireplace is definitely something I'll be considering in the future.

KITCHEN

As you walk through the living room, you come into the kitchen. You may have noticed from the video I shared, this house doesn't have a very big kitchen but we love that it's still enough room for my husband and I and doesn't feel enclosed. In fact its about the same size as our last home, maybe one day we'll reconfigure but for now it works and I love that it's cozy and charming.

DINING ROOM

Dining room is the perfect size for us and when our kids and their families or friends come over. We even fit in a nice size table to seat six. I cannot wait to makeover this space.

BEDROOMS & BATHS

This house has 6 rooms total and 3 full baths. Three bedrooms upstairs, an additional bedroom downstairs and two extra rooms, one used as an office/laundry room and the other as a gym. That's how it worked out for the previous home owners and what each room will be used as for us.

Upstairs: Our master bedroom/bath. Second bedroom is going to be used as a yoga/extra closet /spare room if and when needed for guests. Third bedroom will be set up for our grandson Saylor for when we get to babysit or my daughter comes over and needs a space for him to nap.

BASEMENT

Downstairs: Basement living space, kitchenette, full bath, office/laundry room, guest room and gym.

It may seem like a lot of room for just us two and our two dogs. But it's perfect for our family and especially with our hobbies, interests and workouts. This is exactly what we needed and not feel so confined.

By the time Alex saw and walked through the house in person, we already owned it. Finding this home was unexpected. I was only planning on viewing homes to have options for when Alex finally arrived to Utah so we could go see them together. But as I was scouting one home and the neighborhood, I loved the neighborhood so much that I decided to drive through it and came across this house. It was in our price range and in the ideal neighborhood. I asked our realtor to schedule a viewing and he made it happen the same week. I was giddy just walking up to it.

That feeling you get on Christmas morning but better. Our home nestles right up near the mountains, in a quiet and quaint community, close to parks and hiking trails which is exactly what we wanted. And best of all not far from my daughter and her family.

There were a few things important to us while searching for our new home. That is was close to parks because of the dogs and our grandson, that it had charm, needed some love, mature landscaping, a roomy backyard for gardening and just a bit more square footage than our last home for when family visits.

We got all that and more in this home.

I cannot wait to show you the process of how each room gets transformed. To be honest I'm just having a hard time with which room I want to start with, but it might have to be our master bedroom considering it's our sanctuary.
